Discover the World of Cybersecurity with CyberSnufkin

Hey there, and welcome to CyberSnufkin!

I’m excited to share my journey into the fascinating world of cybersecurity with you. As someone new to the IT field, I’ve decided to document my learning process, share insights, and hopefully, inspire others who are thinking about a career in cybersecurity.

My ROADMAP

To kick off my journey, I’ve crafted a roadmap that will guide me through the essential certifications and skills needed in the cybersecurity field.

Here’s how I plan to proceed:

1. CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ (ITF+):

I’ll start with the ITF+ course on IT Pro TV to build a solid foundation in IT. This course will help me understand the basics and see if I enjoy the subject without the pressure of taking the exam.

2. Learning Python and Linux:

Alongside the ITF+ course, I’ll dive into Python programming and Linux basics. These skills are crucial for anyone in cybersecurity, especially for those interested in ethical hacking and penetration testing.

3. CompTIA A+:

After getting the basics down, I’ll move on to the CompTIA A+ certification. This will give me a comprehensive understanding of IT support, hardware, and software, setting a strong foundation for more advanced topics.

4. CompTIA Security+ (Sec+):

Security+ is next on my list. It covers essential cybersecurity concepts and practices, and obtaining this certification will be a significant step towards becoming a cybersecurity professional.

5. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA):

Networking is a critical component of cybersecurity, so I’ll pursue the CCNA certification. It will provide me with in-depth knowledge of network fundamentals, which is vital for any cybersecurity role.

6. Pentest+, eJPT, or CEH:

To focus on penetration testing and ethical hacking, I’ll choose between CompTIA Pentest+, eJPT (INE), or CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker). Each has its strengths, and I might even decide to pursue all three to broaden my expertise.

7. Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP):

The OSCP is one of the most respected certifications in ethical hacking. It’s challenging, but it will significantly enhance my skills and credentials in the cybersecurity field.

8. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP):

For a broader and more managerial perspective on cybersecurity, I plan to obtain the CISSP certification. It covers various aspects of cybersecurity and is ideal for those looking to advance to higher roles in the field.

Why This Path?

I’ve chosen this sequence because it allows me to build my knowledge gradually, ensuring I grasp the fundamentals before moving on to more complex topics. Starting with the ITF+ will help me confirm my interest in IT, while Python and Linux skills will be useful throughout my possible career. The A+ and Sec+ certifications provide a strong foundation, and the CCNA enhances my networking knowledge. By the time I reach the more advanced certifications like OSCP and CISSP, I’ll have a well-rounded understanding of cybersecurity.

Combining Learning with Practical Experience

Alongside my coursework, I’ll start participating in Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges. These practical exercises will help me apply what I’ve learned in real-world scenarios, making my learning experience more engaging and effective.
